Film

Academy360´s film curriculum is a crash course in independent filmmaking. From fundraising and organizing your film shoot, to attaching the right cast and crew. We share the templates, forms and checklists needed to see your project from conception to fruition. If you´re looking to receive a thorough understanding of what it takes to succeed in film without attending an expensive 4-year program, Academy360 is a great alternative.

Though this curriculum is geared towards film, the theories and practices behind film are applicable to television and shorts. Whichever your medium of choice, you have the chance to immediately exercise your ideas and present them in the project that will be part of the final class performance.

We provide valuable insight on what it takes to work in film, insight that arises from the experience of working insiders — our all-star staff. They´ll teach you the evolution of the medium, show you the processes and teach you the language necessary to succeed with your goals. You´ll walk away knowing the difference between a dolly shot and crane shot, as well as the difference between a best boy and gaffer. We´ll walk you through the film-making process from material selection to fundraising and deal-making. We´ll show you what it takes to pitch, produce, edit and distribute your project.

FILM, Lectures & Theory - We´ve assembled an impressive team of filmmakers who provide their take on suggested readings. They will screen and discuss pertinent film scenes, examine students´ work and field questions. From film theory to film stock, hand-outs to history, they´ll filter decades worth of knowledge and experience into the core information you need to know. In addition, experienced producers will provide behind-the-scenes insight on negotiations, contracts and the fine print.

FILM, Hands-On - The hands-on portion of the curriculum explains and allows you to experience the tools of the trade. You´ll get an overview of various software and editing programs like Gorilla, Movie Magic, Avid and Final Cut Pro, as well as an overview of cameras from digital to film. The hands-on aspect also includes the processes of getting a film made — you´ll get to run a mock pitch meeting, a casting call and produce the final class performance.

FILM, Class Performance - The class performance is your chance to apply what you´ve learned from our lectures and hands-on applications. You´ll experience first-hand what it´s like to call the shots - from which angles to shoot the performance, to directing and editing. All Academy360 students receive a DVD copy of their final class performance that can be used as a demo reel or audition tape.
